Tony Tsune Tamayose In 1958 I joined Transport Canada as an airport radio operator at Fort Smith NWT, then managed weather stations, aviation flight service stations, and managed airports at Cambridge Bay NWT, Uranium City Saskatchewan, and Norman Wells NWT. I then joined Communications Canada as a radio inspector in Calgary, moved to Vancouver in 1975 as the manager of their Vancouver area offices, then as Pacific Regional administrator (BC & Yukon).
In 1988, after the JC Redress Settlement, I was seconded to Secretary of State for Canada where I began working on the Japanese Canadian Redress Implementation Program. I served as the NAJC’s National Redress Administrator. I retired from Federal public service in 1991.
My Japanese Canadian community participation began in the 1970's, and included serving as the treasurer for the Vancouver Japanese United Church, vice chair of the Vancouver Redress Committee, director of the Vancouver JCCA, , NAJC treasurer, and director of the National JC Museum and Heritage Centre.
I served as the project manager for the National Nikkei Heritage Centre in 1990-91, and was responsible for overseeing the completion of their social needs study, the financial feasibility study, and for preparing and submitting their application for $3 million to the JCR Foundation.
I was one of the applicants for incorporation of the Japanese Canadian Redress Foundation, then a Founding Member. I later served as their Executive Director to the end of their mandate in 2002.
